Princess Party
By Amanda Formaro
What little girl doesn't dream of being a princess, even if just for one day? Make that dream a reality by creating her very own princess birthday! Here are some tips and pointers to make it a royal event.
Use cream colored paper to create invitations to your royal ball. If your computer has a “Calligrapher” font, use it for your invites. If not, simply write them out in royal verbiage. “Hear Ye, Hear Ye, Princess Jasmine is celebrating her 5 th birthday. We hereby invite all subjects to the ball which will be held in her parents' royal castle.” Be sure to list the time, address, and an RSVP number, then roll the paper into a “scroll” and tie with a piece of ribbon. If you need to mail the invitations, you can fold them and seal with a bit of hot wax.
Balloons, balloons, and more balloons! Think pink, purple and white, weighted down with several colors of pretty ribbons. Fill balloons with helium, tie colorful ribbons on, and attach to chairs, archways, banisters and walls. For a really fun effect, let several balloons float to the ceiling. With the ribbons hanging down it makes for a very pretty and elegant room.
Use red cellophane or tablecloths to create the red carpet that your guests will enter upon. Decorate archways and doorways with white or pink tulle. Visit an appliance store and ask for any empty boxes they may have. Decorate them to resemble castle walls and let your imagination run wild! Ideas may include using gray paint to create bricks, cutting out archways and turrets, and adding flags. Use silk flowers to decorate your serving table, or try wrapping some around the chairs your guests will sit in.
Set a chair by itself designated for the princess to sit on when she opens her presents. Decorate the throne by covering it with a sheet and tie on tulle and red satin fabric. You can also use large pieces of cardboard to place on the back of the chair to give it more of a throne's height. You can have each guest sit in the chair to have their picture taken as well.

Our princess crowns are the perfec t activity for this party. You can also use star-shaped cookie cutters to make sugar cookies and insert a wooden dowel in each one to create cookie wands. Have the children decorate their own and then wrap them in pretty cellophane to take home.
Finger sandwiches and “tea” are the perfect goodies for a princess. Make either peanut butter and jelly or turkey sandwiches, depending on your guests. Use a star-shaped cookie cutter or kitchen scissors to create star sandwiches. Serve pink punch made from pink soda or lemonade and hand out princess fruit snacks after the kids have eaten. Start out by reading the story Princess and the Pea. Place four or five pillows on the floor and put a green tennis ball or golf ball underneath one of the pillows. Guests take turns sitting on the pillows and trying to guess which pillow has the pea underneath.
“Pin the Kiss on the Frog” is another fun game your guests will love. Draw a basic frog on a piece of green poster board. Cut the frog out and glue it to a piece of white poster board or pin it right to the wall. Use red or pink craft foam to cut out “lips” and add a piece of rolled tape to the back of each set of lips. Children need to get the lips as close to the frog's mouth as they can to turn him into a handsome prince!
Hide a large amount of craft jewels in a large container of sand. Let your guests take turns searching for treasured gems to take home as a royal souvenir.
If there are boys attending the party, a fun “Knight Race” can take place with stick horses.
Clear or pink cellophane bags are perfect for your princess party. Add items such as glitter lip gloss, plastic jewelry, candy necklaces, chocolate gold coins and hair accessories. Small candies can be added as well – remember to think pink, white and purple.
Your little princess will treasure the memory of this party for years to come!
