Where to Stay
Doubletree Guest Suites
For family travel, it’s hard to beat Doubletree – and it’s not just because of those warm cookies they give you as soon as you check in. Every guestroom is really a suite, with lots of room for families to relax in. Kids must be accompanied by adults to use the 12,500-square-foot health club, but they are welcomed (so much so that water toys are kept poolside for their enjoyment).

Holiday Inn on the Hill
How’s this for family-friendly: kids 12 and under eat for free at the Holiday Inn’s restaurant. And that’s not the only perk they get: upon arrival, they are given cool blue soap bubbles, rooms are outfitted with Nintendo, and those aged 19 and under stay in their parents’ room for free. In case that’s not enough to persuade you, the hotel is just a short walk from the Smithsonian.

Hotel Monaco
This is an elegant, opulent hotel, but it’s still geared for family fun. In addition to family packages and welcome gifts, the hotel comes up with innovative ways to keep children amused (one program gives them goldfish in a bowl to take care of during their stay). The hotel is next to the International Spy Museum, so frequently special guest passes are part of the deal.

Hotel Rouge
The Hotel Rouge certainly rolls out the red carpet for its pint-sized guests. It frequently pairs up with local attractions – such as the National Zoological Park – to offer special packages, and welcome kits for kids can include plush toys. Located near the main museums of the Smithsonian, this boutique hotel can make a stylish home base.
