Winter sports 101
![]() The temperature is plummeting, but that doesnąt mean your family is doomed to spend the next few months hiding inside. There are plenty of great outdoor winter sports to try. Here's what you need to know for your next fun family adventure. Snowshoeing What it costs You can go snowshoeing pretty much anywhere you can walk or hike, which keeps costs down. Snowshoes cost about $50 and up, although there some inexpensive plastic ones for under $20 too. Look into renting snowshoes from an outdoors center before you buy. Tip Modern snowshoes are made of lightweight aluminum frames with plastic webbing. These tend to be easier for kids to handle than the old-fashioned wooden ones.
