Snowmass, Colorado

Web: www.snowmassvillage.com
Phone: (970) 922-2297
Where: 205 miles/329 km from Denver

Snowmass is a huge mountain with a lot of beginner and intermediate runs, a really good kids’ program and a great mix of "ski in, ski out" condo and hotel accommodation. It’s so large you could fit 36 Disneyland parks within its ski area boundaries. Lift tickets for this family-friendly resort can also be used at Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Aspen Ski Resorts (all within a nine-mile radius). There are three terrain parks, each for different levels; the expert-level park includes a super pipe — a concave snow pipe 17 ft high on each side and more than 100 ft long — used for jumps and tricks. Daycare is available for children from eight weeks of age and lessons are available for skiers as young as 3 years old. There’s a Family Zone with kids' trails, a picnic area, a children's race arena with training gates and a terrain park with half pipe. Plus, family barbeques are held here every Wednesday. Free 45-minute guided ski tours for intermediate skiers over eight-years-old are offered daily at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. from the Wapiti Wildlife Center - a good opportunity to spot rabbits, deer or hawks. Teens Steeps Classes, for youth aged twelve to 19 are designed to teach how to ski the toughest black and double-black diamond terrain. Nine restaurants are located on the mountain or slope side. Check out www.snowmassvillage.com for family packages.
