Best Potty Seats

By Shandley McMurray

These days, shopping for a training potty can be a daunting task. With literally hundreds of products on the market, store shelves are often bursting with so many choices that trying to make a decision can feel impossible. From potties that talk to Elmo dolls that have to go, we’ve reviewed many of the top toilet training products out there so you don’t have to – let the search begin!

The multi-tasker

Make potty training extra special by giving your child her own toilet. These floor models are well sized for your little one, meaning they're easy to get on and off. And most of them look like real toilets. The added bonus: they're convertible – many have a removable seat that acts as an adapter ring in a real toilet. And they all turn into a step stool that can be used anywhere. The downfall: an adult still needs to empty and wash the removable bowl after each use.

Examples

Boon Potty Bench

Boon Potty Bench
A potty and bathroom organizer in one. This bench is perfect for those who need a bit more storage space. It has two side containers for holding toilet paper (it even comes with a holder), wipes and other necessary training items. When the lid's closed, the potty turns into a step stool that can support up to 300 lbs.

Clean up: Just slide out the drawer, dump the contents and wash.

Added bonus: It looks cool and unpotty-like, making it easier to fit in with a more modern decor.

Downfall: The seat isn't adaptable to a real toilet and most kids will love the easy access to toilet paper, which means you could have a lot of cleaning up to do.

Cost: $34.99 at toysrus.com and in Toys R Us stores.

Age: 18 months +

Safety 1 st Cushy 3-in-1 potty

Safety 1st Cushy 3-in-1 potty
This toilet definitely lives up to its name. The convertible seat is soft and comfy, perfect for little bottoms. Once it's secure on the ground, the wide base makes it easy to stay on without wobbling.

Clean up: An easy-to-remove bowl that won't take long to clean.

Added bonus: It has handles on the side, which make it easy to transfer to a real potty while giving your child something to hold on to for extra balance.

Downfall: There's no reward system for kids who go and the unit is a bit slippery, so you'd need to place it on a rubber mat for extra safety.

Cost: $15.99 at toysrus.com and in Target stores.

Age: 18 months +

Fisher-Price Royal StepStool Potty ™

Fisher-Price Royal StepStool Potty ™
Your little King or Queen is sure to feel regal when sitting on this throne. It's small enough to be unobtrusive, but large enough to do the job, especially when folded into the stool position. The seat adapts quickly to a real toilet with handles for added ease. Plus, it's got a firm grip on the floor.

Clean up: Lift out the seat and remove the bowl.

Added bonus: A reward system that works. After your child goes, he'll hear one of three different songs. The music works by a sensor, so he'll only get the reward if he makes a deposit.

Downfall: A bit of padding on the seat might make it a bit comfier.

Cost: $21.99, toysrus.com and in Target, Babies R Us, Toys R Us, Wal-Mart and KMart stores.

Age: 18 months +
