What You Need

  • green cardstock cut to 5 ½” x 8 1/2”
  • patterned paper in a complementary shade cut to 3 ½” x 3 ½”
  • computer printout of “2010” (see instructions below)
  • strip of white paper about 4” long and 1” wide
  • adhesive such as double-sided sticky tape, glue stick, liquid glue or mini glue dots
  • paper trimmer
  • scissors
  • orange marker

What You Do

  • Fold green cardstock in half.
  • Glue patterned cardstock to the center of the card.
  • Use your computer to print off “2010” over and over again on a piece of white paper. (Or, handwrite or stamp “2010”.) You'll need to cover an area of about 3 square inches. Experiment with different fonts.
  • Fold the 2010 paper but don't crease it. Use scissors to freehand cut a heart.
  • Use the orange marker to go around the edges of the heart. Don't worry about being precise; it's supposed to look “loose” and hand-done.
  • Write, stamp or print off “Happy New Year” on the strip of paper. Tear the edges.
  • Glue “Happy New Year” to the patterned paper, about 2” from the bottom of the card.
  • Glue the 2010 heart just above the Happy New Year strip.
